David and Leila continue to make an excellent job of managing the house. David concentrates on shopping, cooking, cleaning, gardening and minor repairs. Leila is responsible for sleeping all day.

Jan continues to enjoy a four-day week in the City.

In March, we dragged ourselves away from the unseasonably warm weather in Sussex and went to Andalucía for ten days. We were just in time to catch some heavy rain. We visited Ronda and Jimena de la Frontera, then went riding near Cape Trafalgar. Slides.

David was losing weight at an alarming rate, exacerbated by frequent vigorous cycling. A trip to Cornwall with Rick allowed him to score a few cream teas and repair some of the damage. Slides of Cornwall. Slides of a visit to Stourhead on the way home.

By July it was time to go riding again. Jan had injured her knee at Easter and had an operation in May, and was still walking only with difficulty. She wasn't going to let that get in the way of a week on Exmoor. Slides.

In September it was time to party. We flew out to Barcelona and drove to Peter & Lucy's house in the Cerdanya. Buckley & Yi were there along with numerous other miscreants, and a noisy and boozy time was had by all. Slides.

Then we drove to France and visited some castles: Montségur...

... Quéribus...

... Peyrepertuse...

... then drove to Marseillan to meet our friends Patricia & Jean-Luc. Slides.

Refreshed, we drove south again, crossing the border at delightful El Pertús, for a week's riding in Catalunya. Slides.

Family news is less good. Jan's Mum had become noticeably more frail late in 2010, but continues to live alone, albeit with a lot of help. David's Mum struggled from one crisis to the next, but in the summer it became clear that she could no longer live alone. She has been in hospital since July. Clearly she should be in a nursing home, but actually making this happen has been unexpectedly difficult.
