We have been unaccountably house-bound this year. Jan has at least spent the occasional day in the office, though usually only when the stables are closed.

David has scarcely left the house. We shall both try to do rather better next year. (Photo courtesy of Simon Hattersley.)

Our walks at home continue to feature Alfie. Sometimes he can't keep up with our pace.

In May/June we did manage to drag ourselves away from home, and spent two weeks in Bulgaria, a country new to both of us. We visited the medieval capital, Veliko Târnovo...

...the woodcarvers' town of Tryavna...

...the second city (or first city in the minds of its locals) Plovdiv...

...Devin and Shiroka Lâka in the Rhodope Mountains...

...and the capital, Sofia. Enjoy these pictures again, and many more, some featuring creepy-crawlies, in this slide show

In September, David managed to get away for a week in the Lake District with Simon. There followed a rare moment of glamour as their return journey featured visits to both Warrington and Walsall. Here is a brief slide show of pictures snatched on those days when visibility exceeded ten yards.

Leila has been combining her field studies in ornithology with a keen practical interest in butchery. If it goes on like this, we'll be sending her to pursue her research at the University of Alcatraz. Fortunately we have no pictures of such activities, so here she is looking worried about something.

Agatha, very sadly, is no longer with us. Here is our last picture of her, making herself useful in the house as she so rarely did.
