We continue to spend nearly half our time apart, as David is still weekly-commuting to Maidenhead, while Jan commutes four days a week from home to the West End. But we seem to manage well enough. David's secret life in the Maidenhead area revolves around Joanna and her cat Ishra, and Neil and his kangaroo Toushka (a.k.a. Hissimissy).
At the end of January we helped David's mother move from Hammersmith to a brand-new retirement flat in Isleworth. The sale, purchase and move all went astonishingly smoothly, and she has settled in well.
In March we went riding in Andalucia, in an area we already know from other rides. Jan rode her old friend Monteño, David the splendid Lucerro. (Photo courtesy of Patrick Venables.)
In April David went to Japan on business, where he was able to spend some time with his old friend Michael.
In May we spent an intermittently wet week in Brittany and the Loire valley, and David was savaged by a kouign amann.
In July we had a week's gentle walking in the Black Forest, with a trip to Tübingen at the end.
In August David made a business trip to Cambridge Massachusetts, just next door to Boston.
In early October came our main holiday of the year, in the Basque country. We spent most of it walking on the French side of the border, on the coast ...
... and in the hills, but also found time to visit Donostia (San Sebastian) and Bilbo (Bilbao) ...
... where we saw the Puente Colgante ...
... and the inevitable Guggenheim.
Some things don't change. Clove still enjoys a picnic ...
... and Sir Pouncelot still enjoys a little snooze.
David is already planning holidays for next year, but Jan isn't allowed to know what they are.
Oh, one more thing. Anyone know what this means?
